Maurice Ravel’s opera, L’Enfant et les Sortilèges (The Child and the Spells) is a lyrical fantasy about a bad-tempered child, who destroys the things in his room, only for them to come alive singing about revenge. When the child repents, greater wonders unfold. Rich in colour and magical textures, Ravel’s brilliant score does justice to Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette’s inspired libretto. The orchestra and chorus of Opéra de Lyon are led by the passionate Swiss conductor Titus Engel. Gregoire Pont creates incredible visual effects, while staging by James Bonas completes this enchanting production.
