The ballet, Onegin is based on Alexander Pushkin’s novel, Eugene Onegin, about a selfish young man who comes to regret his insensitive rejection of the unsophisticated younger sister of his best friend. Conscious of the power of Pushkin’s novel, which in its day was a sensation with widespread influence, the celebrated twentieth-century choreographer John Cranko created the choreography for Onegin, drawing innovatively on folk, modern, ballroom and acrobatic styles. With arrangement and orchestration of Tchaikovsky’s music by Kurt-Heinz Stolze and the artistry of Bolshoi ballet masters, Agneta Valcu and Victor Valcu, ROHM audiences will experience one of the world’s truly great ballets. A pre-performance talk will be held 1 hour prior to the performance. (For ticket holders only.)
