The Supreme Committee in charge of dealing with COVID-19 held a meeting on Tuesday morning headed by H E Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidi, Minister of Interior, to follow up on the developments of the pandemic, prevention measures, and ways to avoid its spread, as well as looking at how to deal with its effects.
The committee reviewed a report on the epidemiological data from the tourist sites which were locked down in the light of the precautionary measures and decided to maintain the closure of Dhofar Governorate and Masirah until July 17.
The committee also decided to continue the facilitation package to support the private sector and its workforce, which was announced in April, until the end of September. ‘The Committee has followed with great concern the epidemiological indicators of COVID-19, which includes the huge increase in cases, especially among citizens, the high number of cases in intensive care units and death numbers, and the report of lack of commitment by some to the precautionary measures,’ the statement said.
The committee called upon everyone to strictly adhere to physical distancing, wear masks, clean hands, and follow all the precautionary measures. ‘The committee also calls upon all institutions in the public and private sectors to provide an environment for physical distancing while at work, monitor the commitment of all employees and beneficiaries towards the precautionary measures, and monitor violators.’
