Known for its farms, trees, fruits and wadis, the beautiful Jebel Akhdar in the Governorate of Dakhliyah has seen a huge growth in tourist arrivals in the first six months this year, stated the Ministry of Tourism.
The popular tourist site received 84,539 visitors in the first half of this year. In June 2019, it saw 28,725 visitors as compared to 27,161 of the same period last year. In 2018, the place received 226,487 visitors. In June 2019, of the total number of visitors received, 15,104 were Omanis, 1,458, were from the GCC, 1,397 Arabs and other foreigners stood at 10,766.
Integrated services Khaleel al Toobi, director of tourism in Dakhliyah governorate, said, “Jebel Akhdar has seen huge growth in tourist arrivals, particularly Europeans thanks to its unique topography. The green mountains with its beautiful farms, trees and exotic fruits is one of sultanate’s biggest attractions.”
Tourist services centre Marhoon bin Saeed al Mahrouqi, a tourist guide at the Tourism Services Centre, said the site is well-equipped to cater to visitors to the area, “The Tourist Services Centre is located on the way to the mountain road. Opened in 2014, the centre provides important information and route maps of the place. A number of brochures on important tourist points and the public services are also available.” Visitors can also pick up handicraft items unique to Oman made by members of the Omani Women’s Association and Public Authority for Craft Industries.
