
Nine young Omanis have come together to set up country’s first adventure tourism firm – Wadi Adventure Company.
With hopes soaring high each year, the group is confident of putting Oman on top of the list of adventure destinations in the world soon.
In 2018 alone, the company conducted adventure trips for 100 people from 30 countries. Speaking to Muscat Daily, Ahmed al Rayami, co-founder of company said, “It was in 2014, we connected via the Instagram and have since organised several trips to discover the beauty of Oman.”
While four of the team members are from Muscat, four are from Sur and one is from wilayat of Sinaw. The other members of the group are Issa el Sawafi, Salem al Ghailani, Abdullah al Ghailani, Ayoub al Balushi, Assem al Balushi, Hamad al Mukhaini, Ali al Makhini and Hussein Al-Makhzoumi The company that was registered with the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) in 2016 also seeks to tell citizens of their country’s immense adventure potential. “Oman is a land of caves, wadis and mountains. We aim to raise awareness about adventure trips in our society,” said Rayami.
He added that his team members have completed mountain climbing courses in Britain and Dubai. “We have organised trips to several mountain areas, wadis and caves such as Wadi Shab, Wadi al Arbaeen, Wadi Taab, Wadi Tiwi, Al Tahiri Cave, Al Hoota cave, Wadi Bani Khalid, Umaq Beer, Jebel Shams, Wakan Village and Wadi Bani Owaf.”
The company ensures that all safety measures are in place before each trip. “We carry helmets, ropes, special climbing tools, life jackets, Thuraya satellite phones for off-grid areas and first-aid kit during trips,” said Rayami.
The firm has organised trips for adventure enthusiasts from countries such as Canada, the Philippines, Spain, Kuwait, Germany, England, Qatar, America, South Africa, Belgium, Ireland and Brazil.
